All is not well in Dolltown, as the titular character goes on a murderous rampage in this film from Indie World Cinema Hall of Famer Donald Farmer. 

Dolltown is where Darbie happily lives with her sister Tripper. When Ben, Darbie’s boyfriend, is planning a birthday party surprise for Darbie, he tells the others not to tell Darbie. However, Tripper, who has been known to blabber to Darbie, overhears a conversation between Danger Darbie and Ben. She mistakes it for an affair, and she tells Darbie.

Darbie, upon hearing the news, is visibly upset. She decides that she will start killing and get revenge for the affair. When Tripper sees Ben with Rodeo Darbie and Ditzie Darbie, Darbie becomes more unhinged. Finally having had enough, she decides to unleash her fury and make sure she is the only Darbie in town! 

In 2023, Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie movie was released and was a massive hit at the box office. It was inevitable that there would be, somehow and someway, a parody of the film and of course with the public domain horror film on the rise, this was a film that meant to be. And does it work? Well, if you think about the spoof films like say, Scary Movue 3, 4, and 5, I would rather see this very film again than deal with those. One thing for sure. I enjoyed this more than some of the big spoof movies we dealt with in the 2000s and 2010s.

Jessa Flux is destined for greatness in the genre. After seeing her in A&P Films’ giants Murdercise and OnlyFangs, Flux not only plays the titular Darbie here, but also co-wrote the film with director (and recently inducted IWC Hall of Famer) Donald Farmer, and also did the hair styling and lighting of the film. This shows how dedicated she is when it comes to the genre. We see her go from sweet to unhinged and when she does, it is so much fun to see her go nuts. Especially when she goes after Mel Heflin’s Rodeo Barbie in a perfect reference to The Shining’s iconic scene! 

Heflin, Angel Bradford, and Ashleigh Amberlynn are fun to watch as Rodeo, Danger, and Ditzie, respectively. As for Ben, Claude Miles makes the most of his time while the lovely Ana Xaden is exciting to watch as Darbie’s gossipy sister Tripper. Xaden, like Flux, is going to be a name to look out for as she is fun to watch, especially in the finale where it’s clear she is having fun with what happens. 

Darbie’s Scream House is a great example of why Jessa Flux is destined for greatness as one of this millennium’s horror icons. She brings on a combination of sweetness and sultriness until she amps up the unhinged factor to 100. Then, it’s even more fun, and what better support to have than Mel Heflin, Ana Xaden, Ashleigh Amberlynn, and Angel Bradford. Donald Farmer has another winner of a film here, and if true, I am excited for Darbie’s Psycho Pool Party!
