The real-life sisters who star in M3gan and The Black Phone team up with Warrior’s Andrew Koji in this fun heist comedy.
Charlotte and Willow are two sisters who are in Las Vegas for a Christmas vacation with their family. When the parents decide to go on a tour with their little sister, Charlotte and Willow stay at the hotel but must stick together. They learn Charlotte’s favorite pop star Juniper is also at the hotel for a special performance. Meanwhile, security guard David is working detail after leaving London and his daughter Emma.
When the sisters are invited to look around the hotel with pool boy Matthew, they almost get in trouble when they learn the hotel is now in high security due to Juniper’s appearance. Jupiter has a diamond-encased gauntlet that he is planning to sport while performing. Robyn, a master thief and former friend of David’s, plans to steal the gauntlet and exchange it for a fake one. The sisters soon find themselves involved in the heist, and David finds himself caught in the middle of it all. The trio learns the only way to stop the thieves is to work together.
It’s one thing to have a fun heist comedy, but it’s even better when real-life siblings are involved, as it brings natural chemistry to the duo. In this case, we have Madeleine McGraw and Violet McGraw, who play our sisters in the film. Madeleine, of course, is known for her role as Gwen in The Black Phone franchise and Violet is known for her role as Cady in the M3gan franchise. Naturally, they’re great in the film because they play off each other so well, thanks to their natural chemistry.
Add to the mix Andrew Koji, who sports his natural British accent here as David, a security guard who has his own issues. Separated from his wife and must resort to video calling his daughter, we learn that he has a skeleton in the closet. He is trying to get away from a dark past, where he was a former operative who had an unhinged partner in Robyn, an arrogant, pompous woman who is our primary antagonist, played with such beauty and slickness by Aziza Donnelly.
There is a combination of pretty fun action scenes mixed with gags that could come out of a Home Alone film. Koji gets in on a kitchen fight, performing his own fight scenes thanks to his experience on the series Warrior and the upcoming Street Fighter. Even the McGraw sisters get in on the fun, whether they make a henchman slip and fall on olive oil to one pretending to be a chef to get out of trouble. The gags are fun to watch, and kudos to stunt coordinator Arnold Chon for crafting these fun action sequences.
Double Trouble is a fun heist comedy that is driven the McGraw Sisters’ natural chemistry together and with Andrew Koji as their unlikely ally. The gags are fun, making this a fun heist comedy.
The film will be in select theaters on October 9.
